This humanity/hope/human spirit unit has kind of put me at a halt. I'm not quite sure where we are going with this huge unit. Hope is a strong word for me. Earlier in the year I spent an entire week in the PICU at Cooper University hospital. The PICU is the pediactric intensive care unit. I was very sick and I really had no hope. I didn't think I was going to get better. My mom, my inspiration, texted all of my friends and told them to forward around her text. Her text was telling people to text my phone and tell me to get out of bed, and get better so I could come home. I got so many texts, some from people I didn't even talk to. She gave me hope to get better.
I constantly wonder what guides people in their different directions, of either giving up or moving forward and making their lives better. I really hope we do a part of this unit where we talk about how people choose their directions. We don't really have a class definition for humanity yet, but I hope we define it together(or at least try). Honestly, I'm not quite sure what we are going to do with the "human spirit".
Let me begin by saying that when I first heard you were sick, I didn't think much of it. I'm really embarrassed by that now and I'm very glad you're doing better<3
ReplyDeleteAbout your post: I think the discussion of how people choose their directions would be a very interesting one. I think a lot of it has to do with outside influences such as friends, family, etc., but also mental ones and the thoughts everyone has about what a decision could mean for them in the future (also known has pros and cons). Hopefully we an debate this and other topics such as the humanity definition, as long as it doesn't turn out like our success unit........
Admirable how you explained a personal experience. It just goes to show that you know how you want to live your life, and that you've learned a lot through your experiences.
ReplyDeleteHannah, I remember you were one of the first to point out the two paths one can take when faced with a grave situation. I, too, am interested in what exactly causes a person to take one path over another. I think your personal experience will really come in handy as you explore this unit on your own.
